The French government’s gender equality policy

Since 2017, there has been a strong social demand for gender equality, motivated by persistent inequalities and occurring alongside the rise of the #MeToo movement. Violence against women, particularly domestic violence, is a particularly sensitive issue, and especially came to the fore during the pandemic. In response to the expectation of real equality, this subject was declared a major cause of the five-year term in 2017 by the President of France. While this declaration led to the organisation of key moments and the announcement of measures to raise awareness of the issue, no overall strategy was defined or implemented.
