On July 1, 2025, the French Cour des comptes became the external auditor of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
This mandate, conferred to the First President, Pierre Moscovici, is for a period of three years, renewable until the audit of the financial statements for 2030.
Created in 1951, the International Organization for Migration is the leading intergovernmental organization dedicated to migration issues. Since 2016, it has been affiliated with the United Nations system, while retaining a high degree of operational autonomy.
With a presence in more than 170 countries, IOM mobilized an annual budget of over $3.6 billion in 2024, making it one of the leading actors in international cooperation on #migration. It employs more than 22,000 people at its headquarters in Geneva and in more than 550 field offices on five continents.
The scope of the mandate entrusted to the Court includes:
1) the annual audit of IOM's financial statements, prepared in accordance with #IPSAS accounting standards;
2) compliance audits conducted in the field, in certain country offices identified as high-risk due to their volume of activities or exposure to risk;
3) an annual performance audit to assess the organization's management of strategic issues such as financing, combating fraud and corruption, managing partnerships, and managing equality, diversity, and inclusion.
