The missions of the french biomedicine agency

COUR DES COMPTES

The French Agency of Biomedicine (ABM) is a public administrative body created by the Bioethics Law of 6 August 2004 and placed under the authority of the ministry of health. Having succeeded the former Établissement français des greffes (French Transplant Agency), it plays a leading role in the harvesting and transplantation of organs, tissues and haematopoietic stem cells (HSC), as well as in human embryology and genetics. The audit carried out at the request of the Senate’s Social Affairs Committee first looked at the consequences of Law no. 2021-1017 of 2 August 2021 on Bioethics Law for the Agency’s missions, and then reviewed the ABM’s other missions.
