Pierre Moscovici appointed First President of the Cour des comptes

Pierre Moscovici was appointed First President of the Cour des comptes, the French Supreme Audit Institution, by the President of the Republic on June 3rd, 2020. He succeeds Didier Migaud, who became President of the High Authority for Transparency in Public Life (Haute Autorité pour la transparence de la vie publique) on January 31st, this year, after an interim appointment by Sophie Moati, Dean of the Court's Presidents of Chamber.

Currently a Senior audit manager (conseiller maître) at the Cour des comptes, Pierre Moscovici was born on September 16, 1957. He holds a postgraduate degree (DEA) in advanced macroeconomics and philosophy and is a graduate of the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris. He joined the Cour des comptes as a junior audit manager (auditeur) when he graduated from the Ecole nationale d’administration (ENA) on June 1st, 1984.

In May 1988, he was appointed technical advisor to the Minister of National Education, Youth and Sport. In September 1990, he became Head of department for public service modernisation and financial resources at the High Committee for Strategic Planning (Commissariat général du Plan).

He was then elected a Member of the European Parliament since July 1994 and, later, a Member of the French National Assembly for the department of the Doubs (Eastern part of France close to Switzerland) in June 1997. At that time, he was appointed Minister in charge of European Affairs.

He went back to the Court in November 2002 and became an audit manager (conseiller référendaire) in 2003. He was again elected Member of the European Parliament in July 2004 and became Vice-President of the European Parliament.

He was re-elected Member of the French National Assembly for the department of the Doubs in June 2007 and re-elected in June 2012. In particular, he presided over the Urban Area of Montbéliard between 2008 and 2012, when he was appointed Minister of the Economy and Finance until 2014.

He held the mandate of European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs from November 2014 to November 2019, before returning again to the Court.

Pierre Moscovici is affiliated professor at Sciences Po Paris and visiting professor at Columbia University in New York and at the College of Europe in Bruges.

Pierre Moscovici is a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur Order.
